Skateboard Contest Judging Criteria: How Skaters Are Scored at the Uprising Tokyo 2025

World Skate has today released a new document outlining the scope, formation of, and eligibility criteria for, our International Skateboard Judging Certification. The commission has been appointed for the first time in January 2021

The Uprising Tokyo Skateboard Contest 2025 will be judged based on the overall impression of each rider’s performance during their individual runs. Judges evaluate several key elements that contribute to a skater’s score. Here’s an in-depth look at the skateboard judging criteria that will be used to determine the winners at this prestigious event.

Key Elements of Judging:

  1. Difficulty: Judges will consider the complexity of the tricks performed, rewarding skaters who push their limits with challenging maneuvers.

  2. Commitment: The skater’s willingness to take risks and fully commit to their tricks will play a significant role in the final score.

  3. Creativity: Skaters are encouraged to bring fresh, innovative tricks to the course, with points awarded for unique combinations and original moves.

  4. Course and Feature Usage: Skaters are judged on how well they utilize the entire course and its features, including rails, stairs, ramps, and other obstacles. A versatile approach earns higher marks.

  5. Distance Traveled: The distance covered while performing various tricks will be factored in. Skaters who cover more ground while maintaining control and style are rewarded.

  6. Speed, Style, Flow, and Power: Smooth, fast skating that connects tricks with style and power will be recognized. Consistent flow between maneuvers and maintaining a high level of speed adds to a skater’s score.

  7. Consistency vs. Innovation: While consistently clean lines are important, innovation and difficulty will heavily influence scoring. A skater who executes technical tricks with style and variety will receive high marks.

Timing Considerations

The clock starts when the rider begins their first trick, and the run ends once the designated time is up. If a rider is in motion to perform a trick as time expires, that attempt will count if the trick has already been initiated. Timing and execution are key in showcasing a rider’s precision and ability to perform under pressure.

Final Thoughts

The judging criteria for the Uprising Tokyo Skateboard Contest will reward skaters who demonstrate creativity, innovation, speed, and commitment in their runs. Skaters who can master the full use of the course, while performing with difficulty and style, will stand out to judges and have a better chance at securing the top spots. Be sure to follow the action and witness the best skateboarders push their limits at the Uprising Tokyo Skateboard Contest 2025!
